Whiteheads On FaceWhiteheads are quite common among young people in the age group of 13 and 26. Whiteheads, blackheads and pimples are housed in the face because oil glands find it favorable.

Causes of Whiteheads

Although oily and fried foods and poor hygiene are held to be the main culprit for whiteheads, research has come up with different results in the recent past. According to recent scientific studies, whiteheads are chiefly caused by increased production of oil glands, increased shedding of dead cells on the skin and increased bacterial growth in face.

Sebaceous glands form beneath the skin and these glands produce oil so as to prevent the skin on your face from getting too dry. In the period between teenage and mid 20s, these sebaceous glands produce excessive oil chiefly due to hormonal fluctuations in the body. Since the skin on face sheds dead skin cells continuously, formation of whiteheads and pimples on face is more common.

This happens because the dead skin cells combine with the excess oil and clog the skin pores. The clogged pores open avenues for the skin bacteria to multiply and cause a skin infection. To fight the infection, the immune system directs WBCs to the clogged pore. When oil, bacteria, WBCs, and dead skin cells combine in the clogged pore the pore bulges out. This is known as whitehead or blackhead.
